Jacketed Steam Vessels Boilers

The terms "jacketed steam vessels" and "steam boilers" refer to two related but distinct components in industrial and commercial processes, primarily differentiated by their function: a steam boiler generates the steam, while a jacketed vessel uses that steam for heating.

A jacketed steam vessel (often a kettle or reactor) is a type of heat exchanger that uses steam for indirect, controlled heating.

Primary Function: To heat or cool a product (like food, chemicals, or pharmaceuticals) contained within the inner vessel.

Mechanism: It consists of an inner vessel and an outer shell (the jacket), creating a space between the two. Steam (supplied by a boiler) is fed into this jacket, where it condenses on the inner vessel wall. The latent heat of vaporization released during condensation is then transferred efficiently through the vessel wall to heat the product inside.

Key Advantage: This indirect heating method provides uniform heat distribution, preventing "hot spots" that can scorch or damage heat-sensitive products.

Output: The condensed steam (called condensate) is drained from the jacket, often to be returned to the boiler for reuse, maximizing energy efficiency.

Analogy: It acts like the appliance or cooking pot that utilizes the energy generated by the power plant (the boiler).
